Moreover, science is revealing how living things support a Designer! This fast-moving, high-energy workshop highlights several organisms whose features defy evolution. From dolphins and sharks to glow-in-the-dark bacteria, we’ll see how science is discovering that all creatures are far from simple, pointing to a wise creator.

But if we step back and look at the reasons for teaching science, we might marvel alongside our children. Let’s talk about how we can make science fun and interesting without having to pull out a dictionary every minute or turning our kitchen into a laboratory.

How Studying Science Reveals God’s Character and Our Purpose

In the same way a painter’s style and character are revealed in his paintings, we can see glimpses of God’s character in his Creation. The Bible mentions He is light and living water. And as we study these, we understand more about their creator. Studying salt, branches, vines, & grafting reveals deeper clues to how those Biblical passages disclose who we are. You’ll be surprised at how science can make the Bible come alive!

The Power of Words For Our Children

Our world is filled with words. Whether we are reading them, writing them, or instructing with them, they are our tools to build stories, create emotions, and make connections. Yet we need to be aware that words have the power to build up others as well as to tear them down, especially when we speak them to our children. That means words can cause our children to stumble or they can encourage them to soar! God has much to say about our words. They need to be crafted carefully and gently but firmly shared. This is how we can engage others and train up our children. Let’s contemplate not only the power of our words, but how we can boldly use them.

When You Have a Child Who Is Not Driven

Does your child take extra time to complete every task, if completed at all? How do we encourage these children to be responsible? Working diligently is not for the end goal of becoming a millionaire, rather, it’s for the call to work for the Lord, using the gifts He has generously given us for His good! We’ll go over helpful suggestions to encourage those less-than-enthusiastic children and gain a better perspective of what’s really going on.

The Comparison Trap – Moms Need Each Other

Whether it’s on Pinterest or at a co-op, we see other homeschoolers at their best: brilliant kids, clean house, perfect family. We can feel like we don’t measure up. We become divided and fail to offer support and encouragement. As sisters in Christ, we must stop the comparison and come together. It doesn’t take a village to educate your children, but moms need that village of support as the body of Christ.

The Middle School Shift: Why Everything Feels Different and How to Respond

They’ll need more sleep, more time to adjust to abstract thinking, more understanding…and more showers! Join Sherri as she shares how to homeschool and parent during this fun and exciting time. Her research studies in middle school brain development shed much light on these newly-formed “nocturnal humans” in your home.

    Homeschool Leadership / Leaders’ Forum

What Is My Identity as a Leader?

Titles may help label our role in an organization, a family, and the world. However, they also can overwhelm us with the attached responsibilities and expectations. Director. Organizer. Businessperson. Mom. Dad. Friend. These titles often create pressure instead of clarity. How has God prepared us for the roles He has given us? Let’s look at our strengths, focus on who (and Whose) we are, and look for what God is already doing. That informs identity, direction, and clear purpose.

    Balancing Service and Family

Leaders face unique challenges while serving others. How do you balance time spent helping families with your own family’s needs? We don’t want to build our groups at the expense of our children and spouse. There’s only so much to pour out, and if it’s all spent on your leadership role, you may leave your family dry. We’ll cover specific, intentional strategies to prevent this while avoiding guilt that may come in this important role.

    Leader Servants: Not an Oxymoron

When you think about someone who influenced you, often it’s a person who took time to get to know you. Perhaps someone a chapter ahead of you in life was a sounding board for your questions. One of the best characteristics of a leader is one who is a fellow struggler; one who has gone through challenges like others are. Let’s explore those ideas by understanding how to communicate a “coming alongside” servant attitude.
