I am so sorry to hear how things have happened, Cherry. It is definitely important for both spouses to have ownership and responsibility of their household activities. Even if there are no marital issues, death of a spouse is a possibility. So it is definitely wise to consider way in advance how each spouse would continue on without the other one. I really encourage newly married couples to go through Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace workshop so that both are on the same page with finances and both are involved. I pray that God gives you the strength to continue in your situation and He would bring you comfort and bless and provide for you and your children's needs. If you are not connected with a local church, please try to do that for local support and encouragement.

My suggestion would be to either split the homeschooling after 5th grade with your husband, so that you still have up-to-date career skills or have an iron clad pre- or post-nuptial agreement as to financial support if the marriage ends in divorce. I thought I would be "retiring" from homeschooling last year, after 30+ years and 11 children being schooled k-12. My ex decided he want to move on to greener pastures. I now qualify for entry-level, slightly over minimum wage jobs that keep me on my feet all day. Spousal support is 15k a year while the ex keeps 70k and many other long-term homeschooling moms do not receive 15k even if the court awards it. Judges do not recognize the value of SAH moms or homeschooling. My family home had to be sold so he could get his half....I had to buy a super cheap foreclosure because without a work history I could not qualify for a mortgage. He had titled our cars in only his name, so he took both. If homeschooling is a joint decision, both spouses should shoulder the risk involved in one person giving up a career and women should not be ashamed to insist that they not be the only one to put their financial security on the line. To all of those who make it through homeschooling with intact families, congratulations!

[…] http://just-extraordinary.com/what-to-do-when-homeschooling-is-over/ Homeschooling becomes such an intrinsic part of our lives as moms that we sometimes can get lost within it. But you already know children grow up quickly, so it is important to think, imagine, dream, and plan about what the Lord has for you once you have completed the journey. God is not done with what He has for you! […]
